Welcome to the unofficial Logitech Z906 page
Introduction
The Logitech Z906 is a 5.1 surround sound system manufactured by Logitech. This setup consists of 5 satellite speakers, a front center, front left, front right, rear right and rear left speaker. You can imagine the configuration to be as if placing yourself in the middle of a circular line of speakers. This is to emulate the surround sound. Now, probably whats most exciting about any speaker system is the .1 in 5.1, ie; the subwoofer. I consider the woofer to be the heart of the system, because of it's function. Without a subwoofer, you can't really say you have a sound system, because frankly without bass (what the subwoofer emits) you can't enjoy your media the way you're meant to.
The actual system:
The Subwoofer
The system also comes with its own unique piece of hardware, the "center console". This is the box that will help manage the kit (choice of audio inputs, effects, settings of volume) and to decode DTS and Dolby Digital. The device is described as stacking by Logitech, due to its presentation to the horizontal, facilitating its integration into a home theater furniture for example.
Finally, the infrared remote control is still in the game, but it has greatly simplified from 16 to 7 buttons. This greedy swallows, however not less than three AAA batteries! Logitech provides 2 x 8.4 m cable for the two rear satellites and 3 x 4.4 m for the other three speakers.
Let us now turn to the basics, starting with the connector. As we mentioned above, it is full to the back of the box, outside the auxiliary stereo input and headphone output located on the control box. On the box of Z906, we find the three analog input ( 5.1 via mini jack), a mono input (stereo then) and three digital inputs, two optical (and one coaxial). This along with the usual connectors speaker, and record "console" to connect the control box.
Wattage
The five parts are supplied by the same power of 67 watts. That makes a total of 5 x 67 = 335 watts RMS just for the satellites (at 3.85 kHz with a THD of 10%)!The cabinet adopts for its membrane 20.24 cm (25.2 cm cons on the Z5500) powered by 165 watts (at 52 Hz with a THD of 10%). The frequency response is from 35 Hz to 20 kHz and can climb to 110 dB SPL maximum, therefore making a staggering 500 watts RMS total.
My Personal Opinion
You can't really complain when it comes to the Logitech Z906, it delivers. I personally use this system for music and games on my computer, although it is actually meant for a home theater setup. What's really good about this system is that unlike others, the increase of bass doesn't affect the volume/quality of the vocals/melody. So you can have exhilarating bass, yet smooth crisp sound. The design is also quite remarkable, and very sleek. I would recommend this system setup to anyone, it is one hell of a good system.
